I’m no great photographer and I’m no great birder. But I am very pleased to have spotted a kākā at Nelson Lakes National Park, and borderline amazed that I managed to capture it on camera — even if it’s a terrible shot.

The new mayor of Auckland is in the news in the news for forcing amazingly backwards changes to the city’s transport strategy. Glad to be able to be bummed about it from a remove, while continuing to enjoy the really shockingly enviable bicycle infrastructure in our tiny town. Being able to go to the supermarket, by foot or by bike, without feeling like you’re going to die? Can’t be beat.
